Steve Hicks is a freelance composer and trumpet player. He began composing at an early age and is largely self taught. He read Theoretical Physics at Imperial College, London and followed this with a postgraduate year at the Royal College of Music. Whilst at the RCM Stephen got to the penultimate round of BBC Young Composer competition and the world premiere of his Brass Quintet was performed at the Aldeburgh Festival. 

Steve is a PhD candidate at Kings College, London studying with Robert Keeley, having finished his MMus there studying with Robert Keeley, John Deathridge and Arnold Whittall. 

Steve's music has been performed at venues including St John's, Smith Square and the Shanghai Expo
